I just recently returned to the US from a semester in South Africa during which I learned some Xhosa in a class and while living with my host-family in New Brighton. I really love the language and now, I am self-studying, trying desperately to improve my understanding of this very complex language. I just wrote my first composition, a letter to my host mother to thank her for everything, and I want to know how well I did. So, I was wondering if there was anyone in this community who knows Xhosa and who would be willing to look at the letter and give some corrections in grammar or suggest alternative wording.
Also if anyone is a native speaker of Xhosa and would be interested in a pen-pal-ship let me know. Thanks!
Molo mama! IKresmesi emyoli nonyak'omtsha omnandi! Ndiyakukhumbula kakhulu. Ninjani? Ndisatotoba! uMzokolo noNtomboxolo baphila njani? Ibinjani iholide yakho? Mna, iholide yam emnandi. Ndahlala ekhayeni lethu nosapho.
Kodwa ndiza kubuyela eyunivesithi kamsinyane. Ndonwabile. Kususela oku ndiphumile, ndiqhubile ukufunda isiXhosa. Ndabhala incwadi esiXhosa. Ndayibhalela i-SIT Xhosa Intensive Language Course. Ungandiqondo?
Ndifuna ukubulela ngento yonke! Ndithanda Mzantsi-Afrika neBhayi. Ndithemba ndinako ukukuhambela kwakhona kamsinya. Ndiyakuthanda, mama!
